All new students (Master, Doctoral, CAS, Master’s leading to Doctoral, Diploma, Dual-Degree, Professional Master or Certificate leading to Master) who have either not submitted a test score for admission (e.g., those who submitted a certificate of English medium of instruction) or who have submitted scores from a one of these tests – CEFR, TOEFL paper-based or computer-based, CET 4 – must take the AIT Academic Writing Placement Test (AWPT) to validate their writing scores and to be able to register for classes.
Students with scores 5.0 and 5.5 on the AIT academic writing placement test (AWPT) or its equivalent are required to attend mandatory English writing courses and complete EL19 with a passing grade or obtain the AWPT score of 6 or higher in order to register for thesis, dissertation, research study or project. Students will need to pay a registration fee for EL courses before they can attend. The EL course level will be automatically assigned based on a student’s current English score:
- 5.0 – EL15 Intermediate English Composition
- 5.5 – EL19 Academic and Technical Writing
EL courses will be graded as Pass, Incomplete or Fail. This grade will appear on transcripts, but will not count towards a student’s GPA. Those who attend less than 80% of their EL classes will not be allow to take the final exam of the course. Therefore, passing of an EL course requires both participation and performance improvement.
Students are not allowed to retake the AWPT without attending their assigned EL courses. After sufficiently participating in an EL course, students will be allowed to retake the AWPT according to the LC’s testing schedule.
